Twitter is all the rage at the moment, and one of the biggest questions facing businesses and entrepreneurs is how to make this microblogging service drive business to their websites.  We have done our research and have just started to use Twitter, and almost immediately it started to generate traffic to our website.

How to use Twitter
The easiest way to do this is to offer short excerpts or summaries of longer blog posts or website pages, and post them using a URL shortening service (many Twitter update clients, such as Twhirl or TweedDeck, will do this for you). Once you’ve established with your followers (the people who subscribe to your Twitter updates) that you have an eye out for interesting articles and posts, you will have gained enough credibility to begin posting your own opinion pieces.

PS! Remember: Maximum lenght of any Twitter post (tweet) is 140 characters.

Other businesses using Twitter
The best example of an established business using Twitter to drive traffic to their site is Old Navy, a company whose one dollar sandal sale spread like wildfire across the microblogging site several weekends ago. A few well placed tweets were tweeted and retweeted, and both the Old Navy website and stores across America were mobbed by people desperate to buy cheap sandals – a great example of how virally marketing your products by word of mouth can direct more customers to seek out your website and use your products, at very low expense.

We will be back with more Twitter tools and tips later, but for now this should get you started.  DON’T WAIT and DON’T BE AFRAID.  Dive into it and you’ll know all the tricks and shortcuts before you know it – and YOU WILL DRIVE TRAFFIC to your website ;-)

Yours respectfully
Tom & André
